Urgent action on Gladstone housing: LNP

AN urgent review of all available housing land in Gladstone has been ordered to seek a solution to the area's public housing crisis.

Gladstone MP Liz Cunningham today asked Public Housing Minister Dr Bruce Flegg in Parliament what plans there were for construction of housing in her mining-rich electorate.

Mr Flegg said the LNP was taking urgent action to address the crisis in public housing.

"(I have asked for) an urgent review of all available land and any available land in the area of Gladstone and it is our intention to get homes built on that land as a matter of urgency," he said.

Dr Flegg said he had been in discussion with Community Housing, which had begun to examine parcels of under developed land "with a view to getting homes built on that land as quickly as possible," he said.

The LNP had inherited a portfolio of public housing properties that were under occupancy and a very significant rent gap, Dr Flegg said.
