Utility crash cuts power
A DRIVER shuffling around in the cabin of his ute while on the road left more than 1000 Warwick West residents without power yesterday afternoon.
A male driver was uninjured after his ute smashed into a power pole in Locke Street about 2.30pm yesterday.
It was alleged the driver’s eyes momentarily left the road when he was looking for something in the cabin of the utility.
An Ergon Energy spokeswoman said an estimated 1277 customers were left without power after the incident, including the traffic light at the intersection of Wood and Wallace streets.
“They were without power for about 30 minutes but 66 customers didn’t have power until about 5.30pm,” the spokeswoman said.
A Warwick Police spokesman said the man was charged with driving without due care and attention to appear at the Warwick Magistrates Court at a later date.
