Utility paints town white

THE streets of Warwick received a facelift yesterday morning when the load off an unsuspecting contractor's utility hit the bitumen.

The traffic lights at the Albion and Wood St intersection saw minor disruptions as police and firefighters worked together to clean the road.

A Warwick police spokesman said the process took about 45 minutes to conduct.

"Fire and rescue attended the scene to wash the paint off the road while police personnel directed traffic," he said.

At 8.38am one Warwick Queensland Fire and Rescue crew responded to the call from police to assist with the road wash down before leaving the scene at 9.09am.

The owner and manager of the rendering contracting business involved in the spill said this was a new experience for him.

"I have never had anything like this happened to me before," he said.

"The palate wrapping securing the buckets of render just gave way and then so did the ropes on top of that.

"We had travelled all the way from the Sunshine Coast (yesterday) to do a couple of insurance jobs in the area."

The Brisbane-based contractor said despite the size of the mess the amount of polymer render spilt was small.

"Two buckets fell off the tray and between them probably about a quarter of a bucket ended up on the road," he said.

"What isn't washed off will just rub off naturally with the wear and tear of the traffic."

The Warwick police spokesman said the driver was issued with an infringement noticed for having an unsecured load.
