Vandalism spree in Stanthorpe

VANDALS have gone on a spree in Stanthorpe overnight, with a number of businesses being defaced in the main street.

A series of tags have been spotted on the shop fronts of several businesses including the ANZ Bank, Granite Belt Pharmacy and the Central Hotel.

The vandal also defaced the Stanthorpe Information guide outside the post office.

Police have questioned a person in relation to the incidents and will announce more details later today.

In a separate incident, the Backpackers of Queensland facility has been damaged with a vandal throwing three large rocks through the front windows.

Manager at Backpackers of Queensland Doug Lemon said the damage caused to the windows would cost about $3000 to replace.

Mr Lemon has managed the facility for eight years and said the vandal was most likely to have been staying at the venue.

"I wouldn't say they're well behaved," he said.

"A lot of them get full of alcohol and drugs and cause problems."

More details to follow.
