Vandals trash Southern Downs school
POLICE are asking anyone who may have information to come forward about a "senseless" act of vandalism on Killarney P-10 State School over the weekend.
Students and staff arrived at school on Monday to find windows, telephone cables and other property had been damaged.
The damage also extended to the Prep students' cubby house, where a door had been ripped off the wall, according to Killarney police Senior Constable Nathan Thomson.
"For someone to wilfully damage the Prep's cubby play house so the young kids can't play is disappointing," Snr Constable Thomson said.
"It's just senseless vandalism, it doesn't achieve anything and it is a waste of money for the school.
"With the cubby house, they're only five and six-year-olds, it's hard to explain to them that someone deliberately damaged that."
The school had just finished $710,000 worth of renovations earlier this year and Snr Constanble Thomson said the event was disappointing for the whole community.
"They get nothing out of it but being a nuisance," he said.
If anyone has any information that could identify these vandals, contact the Killarney Police Station on 4667 6808 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
