Driver 'blacked out' before hitting tree

UPDATE 12.30pm: A MAN has been taken to Warwick Hospital after being injured in a crash at the intersection of Wallace and Cleary Sts.

The elderly man was reportedly driving away from the United Petrol Station when his vehicle drove into a tree.

United Petrol Station employee Gwen Mills said the man was a regular.

"He drove in to fuel up his car and when he was leaving he flew across the intersection, flattening a sign and driving into the scene," Mrs Mills said

"I went over and he had a few scratches and was completely shocked and unaware of what just happened.

"He said as he was driving away he blacked out and couldn't remember hitting the tree."

Paramedics were called to the scene about 11.40am.

A spokesman from Queensland Ambulance Services said the man was transported with a minor head injury but he was in a stable condition.

INITIAL 11.45am: A vehicle has reportedly driven off the road and crashed into a tree in Warwick.

Emergency vehicles are on their way to the scene at the corner of Wallace and Cleary Sts.

There was reportedly only one vehicle involved in the crash, which occurred about 11.40am.
