Costigan on target in Warwick romp

DONALD Costigan scored three goals as Warwick beat bottom team Norths 8-0 in Toowoomba veterans men's hockey on Thursday night at Clyde Park.

Dion Phillips scored a double with Andrew Millard, Dave Jordan and Gary Millard netting one each.

Costigan had a great game at centre forward and received strong support from Don Campbell at centre half, fullback Robert Murphy and goalie Dave Zwoerner.

Warwick plays Newtown on Thursday night while leaders Red Lion play Past High. Both games will have a major impact on placings in the top four.

Only one round of fixtures remains before the President's Cup final on August 18 which will be contested together with the final round game of the season between Warwick and Red Lion.

The Warwick A2 men's and A3 women's teams had byes in Toowoomba hockey at the weekend.

VETS TABLE: Red Lion 32, Rangeville 29, Past High 28, Warwick 27, Newtown 17, Norths 12 (at end of July).

Grand finals set for Warwick hockey

THE Warwick Hockey Association has tentatively set down September 11 for junior and senior grand final.

The grand finals are being scheduled on a Sunday as association officials hope the Warwick women's A3 team qualifies for the grand final in Toowoomba on September 10.

The senior teams will play a round robin on grand final day after the end of junior finals and presentations.

Junior co-ordinator Phil Rolfe said junior numbers were up on last year despite the lack of a synthetic surface due to the floods.

“Senior numbers are definitely back in Warwick club hockey but three teams are playing in Toowoomba,” Rolfe said.

“We have had more representative teams this year than any time in the past six years.”

Women's President's Cup final on Sunday

SEVEN Warwick players are in the Past High A2 women's team playing in Sunday's President's Cup final against Red Lion in the Toowoomba Hockey Association.

With Warwick hockey without a synthetic surface this year, Warwick is fielding an A3 women's team in Toowoomba as well as providing a number of players for the A2 Past High team.

The seven are Past High captain/right inner Toni Cox, vice-captain/centre half Bonita Tyler, fullback Jodie Olsen, centre forward Brianna Miller, goalie Kerri Fitch, right wing Bianca Fitch and right half Rachael Inmon. All Toowoomba President's Cup finals, except the veterans, will be played on Sunday at Clyde Park in Toowoomba.
