Warwick vets going well

WARWICK is in the top two in the Toowoomba Hockey Association veterans’ competition after scoring a 2-0 win against Past High on Thursday night at Clyde Park.

The Warwick vets have four wins and a loss in their first five games of the season.

The biggest win of the season was 10-0 against Newtown.

Team organiser Phil Rolfe said the response from the Warwick players had been amazing.

“We have up to 16 players out of a squad of 19 at games each week,” Rolfe said.

“Our players like being in their own age division in Toowoomba and also play Warwick club hockey.”

Steve Farrell has been one of the best for Warwick all season at fullback.

Gary Millard and Greg McDonald have been two of the form strikers in the Warwick side.

Rolfe is considering moving midfielder John Creed to the forward line for the game against Red Lions at 7.45pm Thursday at Clyde Park.

The Warwick team includes two women, Toni Cox and Michelle Eastwell, who will also play for the Warwick women’s veterans’ side in the state championships at Queen’s Park on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

SQUAD: Phil Rolfe, Gary Millard, Greg McDonald, Steve Farrell, Don Battese, Craig McKay, Dave Zwoerner, Robert Eastwell, Peter Pickering, Drew Jackson, Greg Throw, Wayne Bishop, Don Campbell, Eric Kraak, Dave Jordan, Larry O’Brien, John Creed, Toni Cox, Michelle Eastwell.
