Views flow on budget

COMMENT and debate over council’s budget has decorated the Daily News web site.

According to online comments by MaryR reservations about the priorities of council spending signal a wider dissatisfaction with their ability to manage their responsibilities.

“Ratepayers expect fiscal management which is sensible,” she said.

“We all manage our budgets and try to live within our means, we expect the same from our elected representatives. If I point out inefficiency in council management, will anyone take it on board or endeavour to rectify the problem?

“The answer has been no in my experience and this means council is set in its ways and unable to evolve into a responsive and representative body.

"Holding positions of responsibility is never easy, listening and communicating is! How much better it would be if the ratepayers of Southern Downs were able to access a local Councillor responsible for their own ward or division?”

However DMSOJR from Warwick said it was easy for those on the outside to criticise.

“More often than not these are the people who will never put their names to a ballot paper for election as they truly do not understand the processes, protocols, government regulations and financial management of a very large corporation.

“Personally I want the councillors and staff who are prepared to make the tough decisions regardless of their popularity.”
