'Virgins' chase Perfect Couple

A NORTHERN Rivers couple who defied an arranged marriage are proving to the nation love can conquer all.

Harpreet Ghooti and Navdeep Atwal, dubbed 'the virgins', are one of eight couples vying for the title of Australia's Perfect Couple on the Nine Network's new reality series.

The couple, known as Harps and Nav, follow the strict Sikh religion and had to fight their parents to get engaged.

“What you should know about our relationship is that it was really hard to get to where we are now,” Harps, 20, said.

“A love marriage is a very serious thing in the Sikh culture, and for us to fight against our families to be together was a major deal.”

The couple met on the Internet through friends four years ago and denied their relationship for a long time because it was not arranged by their parents.

The battle to win $250,000 continues next Wednesday at 7.30pm.
