Visitors appreciate history at Glengallan Homestead

VEHICLES ranging from Model A Fords to FX and FC Holdens were at Glengallan Homestead yesterday when the Darling Downs Vintage and Veteran Car Club dropped in for lunch.

Club member Harry Brazier was charged with organising the day and came up with the idea of a trip to Glengallan Homestead for lunch.

"We take turns in organising rallies. Glengallan is different and a lot of members haven't been to the homestead before," Mr Brazier said.

"Some people bring families and others bring neighbours from around the corner."

He was impressed that not all of the homestead had been restored, which meant he could see the work that went into the construction.

"It is interesting to think about the number of tradesmen who would have worked on the homestead," he said.

Many of the veteran and vintage cars on the road to Glengallan yesterday were six-seaters, which enabled drivers to bring their family.

Five of the young ones at the lunch at Glengallan included members of the Pascoe family.

Trent Pascoe has three old vehicles - a 1942 Chev Lendlease, a 1942 Chev Blitz and a 1972 Ford Escort.

Corey has a 1972 HQ Ute and a 1982 WB Ute and Tyrone drives a 1977 LS Mini owned by his mother.

Jeff Cox had distributor problems as he drove his 1940 Chev into Glengallan but had it repaired for the trip home.

Glengallan chair Donna Fraser said this time of year was popular for visits to the homestead by car clubs.

"We had the Fenwick Memorial Car Club for morning tea before the Darling Downs Vintage and Veteran Car Club came for lunch and have 200 coming with the MG Car Club on Easter Monday for lunch," Mrs Fraser said.
