Visitors claim Rose Bowl

TWO days of glorious weather greeted bowlers this week, when a lively group of about 50 took to the pitch for the Rose Bowl competition.

The competition has been running each June since 1993 and Warwick Bowls Club president Barbara Campbell said it was always a successful two days.

“We put a lot of work and pride into the competition and I think everyone seems to enjoy it,” she said.

“We were very lucky (the past two days) – we’ve had a couple of lovely days of warm weather.”

About 16 teams from clubs Tarragindi, South Toowoomba, Algester, Pittsworth, Warwick, North Toowoomba, Toowoomba City, West Toowoomba, Goondwindi and Killarney battled it out for two jam-packed days of games.

The overall winners were Algester players Sharon Kerwin, Angela Carlish and Judy Richter, and Tugun club’s Cynthia Blair (who claimed the prize for the second year).

Mrs Blair had played for her third consecutive Rose Bowl competition and said she greatly enjoyed coming back.

“It’s always wonderful here – that’s why we keep coming back,” she said.

“The hospitality of the Warwick players here is just magic – the food was fantastic and the games were fun.”
