Volunteers are backbone of Warwick organisation
THE St Vincent de Paul Society injects thousands of dollars each year as part of their good works to assist the needy in Warwick and they do it all thanks to a tireless group of volunteers.
New to the organisation, having recently taken the position of centre co-ordinator in charge of the St Vinnies stores in Warwick, Killarney and Inglewood, Whitney Clift said the retail centres would cease to exist without those volunteers.
"We currently have around 40 volunteers working in the retail centres here in Warwick alone," she said.
"We're always on the lookout for more and will be very welcoming to anyone who would like to give some time to help out."
Volunteers staff the shops as well as looking after sorting donations of good quality clothes, furniture and bric-a-brac.
"St Vincent de Paul uses the funds raised in the retail centres to go toward housing and emergency assistance programs as well as many other programs to help those in need within the community," Miss Clift said.
"There is a lot the organisation does to help that the general population may not be aware of."
In keeping with the main street shopping experience, the Palmerin St St Vincent de Paul retail centre is the place to find collectibles, high-end clothes and products.
"The quality of donated goods in Warwick is really exceptional," Miss Clift said.
"Both Warwick retail centres are packed with great items and the range is constantly turning over.
"The community support is great as well, all our our stores are very well supported."
Miss Clift said volunteers could work as much or as little as they chose.
"It's a very flexible roster, some work a few hours a week, some more, whatever suits their lifestyle," she said.
"I've only been working for the organisation for a week, but I've found everyone to be so friendly and lovely and I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead."
