VWs vie for top spot at Warwick Dragway
RACING amateurs and aficionados alike are gearing up for the VW Nationals this weekend.
Hosted at Warwick Dragway by VW Magazine Australia, the event will welcome more than 100 Volkswagens to the track.
Magazine editor Craig Hughes said the 2015 event was the largest one to date.
"It's the tenth one this year so it's been bigger than expected," Mr Hughes said.
"We have 112 competitors, which is more than in previous years.
"I've done a lot of promotion this year - we had a segment on The Great South East, which has prompted a lot of people to plan it in their calendars."
Competitors are welcome to bring any Volkswagen model, with four different classes catering to different models and skill levels.
Mr Hughes commended the Warwick District Drag Racing Association and said he hoped to see a lot of spectators walk through the gates and support club.
"I've tried bigger venues down south, but the thing about Warwick is that the rural atmosphere and club support make it a great weekend," he said.
A Saturday morning street parade and display in Leslie Park from 9.30-11am will be followed by practice and qualifying rounds from 1-5pm, ahead of the round robin from 10am on Sunday.
Daily tickets are $10 a person. For more information visit vwma.net.au/warwick.
