WA sisters heading to Warwick for polocrosse weekend
POLOCROSSE: Sisters from Western Australia will be two of the players in Warwick for this weekend's National Squad Challenge in polocrosse.
Thirty two of the best players in Australia, predominately from the national open men's and ladies squads, will play at Morgan Park from Friday evening.
Suzette Thomas and younger sister Lizzie Lyster will play on opposite teams in the battles between the two ladies teams, Green and Gold.
Thomas won the best lady player award as Australia won the 2007 World Cup at Morgan Park in Warwick.
The sisters are two of four siblings in their family to play for Western Australia. Sally Galvin played in the first World Cup in Warwick and Tracey Jarrett was a major winner of best player awards at the recent nationals in Albury.
The local connection in the national squad teams this weekend is Ryle Waugh from the Cunningham club who is one of two players from last month's victorious Australian under-21 team which toured South Africa backing up.
Waugh and Farann Mathie from New South Wales are the two U21s from the trip to South Africa playing this weekend.
Warwick has two officials involved with the squads, Paul McGrath is a men's coach and Libby Wells is a ladies team manager.
Performances this weekend will have some bearing on selection of teams for next April open series in Warwick between Australia and South Africa.
Seventy-five teams are expected to play in the IOR Petroleum Rose Bowl Carnival being played in conjunction with the national squad games.
There will be night action on Friday and Saturday with action all day Saturday and to mid afternoon Sunday.
