Waiting on stamp duty promise
REAL estate agents and potential homeowners are waiting with bated breath to see if Can-Do will deliver as promised on stamp duty.
New Premier Campbell Newman vowed to reverse Labor's $7000 slug on the family home if elected.
Helen Harm Real Estate owner Helen Harm said she was optimistic Mr Newman would stick to his promise and the city would benefit.
"We need to get the property market going again and the interest is there, but I think people were just waiting to see what would happen government-wise," she said.
LJ Hooker principal Rob Finlay echoed Mrs Harm's sentiments, saying a roll-back in stamp duty would create certainty.
"Stamp duty is often a hidden cost for people and when they go to purchase a home it's something extra they have to find," he said.
Mr Finlay said buyers had put their plans on hold in anticipation of the state election results, but he believed confidence was now back.
