Walkers well as runners welcome at parkrun
WALKERS are welcome as well as runners for the weekly parkrun in Warwick.
At 7am sharp each Saturday rain, hail or shine, anywhere from 70 participants and upwards turn up for a 5km trek.
The start point is on the banks of the Condamine River below the Warwick rugby union club headquarters at Risdon Oval.
Walkers, joggers and runners are able to compare their times each week as they have their own barcode which is recorded at the end of each event.
There is no charge to have a go, all that is needed is a barcode printed from the parkrun website.
The Warwick event has participants of all ages from brilliant young Warwick State High School middle distance and cross country runner Sophie Follett to participants five times her age.
The name of the event might be parkrun but the walkers are more than welcome.
Last year, the one break from the weekly Saturday 7am event was for the Pentath-run which is a great chance for many of the parkrun participants to put their Saturday fitness work into practice.
Some of the parkrun organisers will also be involved with the 2015 Daily News Pentath-run on May 23-24 which is five events making up a total distance of 42.2km, the same as one marathon.
