Wallace wins state boxing title
BOXING: A state novice title win by Britnee Wallace was the highlight as five Rose City Boxing Club members headed to the Queensland Novice Championships at Acacia Ridge at the weekend.
Only three of the five boxers were matched.
Wallace stood up to the occasion for her title fight against Taylah Robertson, from Impact Boxing Club, Noosa.
Robertson is the current Australian titleholder for the 54kg division.
From the sound of the bell in the first round, Wallace took control of the fight, her continual leading left jab and counter punching left Robertson looking for any opportunity to counter attack.
"Britnee, being the supreme boxer she is, was far too quick and fit to out punch her opponent and made sure it was a easy decision for the judges - a unanimous decision in three rounds," club publicity officer Peter McMahon said.
Lachlan Roche was up next to fight Palm Beach boxer Bill McCalister, in a fight that went punch for punch for three rounds, with neither boxer taking a backward step with some big heavy hitting and a lot of determination.
Roche showed plenty of heart and was unlucky not to get the nod from the judges to lose in a close encounter.
Jack Crossman made his boxing debut on Saturday night against an opponent from Fortitude Boxing Club.
He showed a lot of great hand and foot movement skills in his debut for the club and was not afraid to mix it with the more experienced boxer but, unfortunately, did not get the decision on the night.
Head trainer Damien Lawler was extremely proud of his boxers.
"All three boxers showed a lot of guts and determination to do the Rose City Boxing Club and Warwick very proud," he said.
Jacko McMahon and Randy Gonzalez were not matched.
The club's next outing will be in four weeks time in Caboolture.
