Winx back to rule the globe

SYDNEY'S mighty mare Winx returned unannounced to trainer Chris Waller's stables late last week to step up preparations for a possible international race campaign next year.

Winx was spelled soon after winning a record-equalling third successive Cox Plate last spring, and after a month's rest she had a couple of weeks pre-training before going back to Waller's Rosehill stable base last Thursday.

Waller said Winx, who is on a 22-race winning streak, enjoyed her break and has returned in tremendous order.

Winx's 2018 race campaign is still to be determined but it is likely she will resume in the Apollo Stakes at Royal Randwick in February.

There is a likelihood Winx will race overseas during the northern hemisphere summer with the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot a possible target.
