Wandoan rider in top form in bronc ride and campdrafting at most famous rodeo in Australia
RODEO/CAMPDRAFTING: Cameron Webster won't forget the Thursday of the 2017 Warwick Rodeo and Campdraft any time soon.
The Wandoan rider started the day with his second cut-out of 24 in drafting to win the best cut-out in a field of 926 combinations in the Pryde's EasiFeed Warwick Cup.
Four riders in the field finished with 24 and Webster recorded the same score on Thursday to win the ride-off.
He is one of 12 riders who go in to round 2 of the Warwick Gold Cup tomorrow morning with a share of the lead on 90 points.
He was one of three entrants on Tuesday to score 90 when he competed on Bob.
On Thursday night, he moved from campdrafting to the back of the chutes and scored 82 on Gill Brothers horse Arrow to win round 1 in saddle bronc in the Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals.
"The 82 was my best score for a year,” Webster said. "I drew Arrow a few years ago and won.”
He has a few practise horses at home at Wandoan and often heads to the home of his cousin, rodeo contractor Rick Knudsen, to hone his saddle bronc skills but said for the past month it had been too wet to practise.
While he is coming from the back of the field in saddle bronc after qualifying 13th, Webster is keen to push for his first title win in pro rodeo after previously winning two pro tour titles for the most money won in a season.
The family has two cattle properties in the Wandoan area. Webster, wife Sarah and children Max and Gracie live on one property and his parents live on the other.
