Man wanted for stabbing nabbed on Darling Downs
A MAN wanted for serious crimes including the stabbing a man during a burglary in Gladstone remains in custody after facing court yesterday.
Wayne Matthew Flanagan, 34, was arrested on Saturday after a specialist police team and Warwick police raided a property after the man came to their attention.
Warwick police officer in charge Jamie Deacon said it was alleged the man stole a motorbike from Brisbane on Thursday and made his way to the Southern Downs region.
"Police tried to stop the man for a routine traffic matter on Saturday and he accelerated away," he said.
"Police discontinued the chase due to the dangerous way he was riding."
Senior Sergeant Deacon said further inquiries suggested the motorcycle was stolen and a possible address for the man.
"The Special Emergency Response Team from Brisbane and Warwick police raided the property and arrested the man on Saturday," he said.
Flanagan has been charged with 24 offences including break and enter, evading police and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
"The man was wanted for a number of serious offences committed in Gladstone in February this year as well as in Childers," Snr Sgt Deacon said.
The 34-year-old man remains in custody after appearing in Warwick Magistrates Court yesterday and will face court again on May 16.
