WARNING: Damaging winds to hit the Southern Downs

THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the Southern Downs.

Thunderstorms bringing damaging winds have developed in the Western Downs and are moving east.

The storm is expected to bring those damaging winds to Warwick, Stanthorpe, Clifton, Millmerran, Goondiwndi, Texas, Toowoomba, Dalby, Oakey, Pittsworth and surrounds.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service recommends residents take the following precautions:

-Move cars undercover or away from trees.

-Secure loose outdoor furniture

-Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under a tree.

-Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.

-Be aware of fallen trees and powerlines
