Warning to play it safe after house fire

A HOUSE fire on River Terrace on Saturday morning has prompted a warning from local firefighters about safety around heating appliances during winter.

Two fire trucks, two police cars and an ambulance were called to the house about 10.30am.

Queensland Fire Service Warwick station officer Darren Welsh said the fire started after the owners tried to get a fire going in their fireplace.

"Don't be foolish around fireplaces or other winter heating appliances," he said.

"It is important to be careful when using heating appliances."

The owners were quick to call 000 and firefighters were able to put out the fire, which spread through the laundry to the back of the house, before it caused too much damage.

No one was injured.
