Wattles Warriors geared up for a vintage season
THE Wattles Warriors are set for a massive 2013 after making some big signings this year making them more competitive and ready to win.
Player turned new president Aaron Scheid said they have signed brothers Matt and Ryan Duggan, as well as securing Luke Duggan to coach their A grade side.
"I consider Matt Duggan to be the best half back getting around the TRL and Ryan is a very good second rower or lock forward," Scheid said.
The club has also held onto in-form players from last year, Scott McMillan and Tim Hentschel, while also getting the signatures of Will and Xavier Manly, who also brought their brothers Dan and former Southport Tigers prop forward Pat.
"The season is looking very positive, everyone will be competing for their positions, which will help improve our reserve grade side as well," Scheid said.
The club is getting an early start to the season and started training last night; they will also hold their seniors sign-on day this Saturday starting at 3pm.
"It's very early days yet, but we should be competitive in all three grades, the whole club, myself included, are very excited for the Barret Shield that will be at Cowboys this year," Scheid said.
The club is holding pig races as its first fundraising event for the year on January 19 at Platz Oval, the bar and canteen will open at 2pm and the first race will start at 3pm.
