Warriors to contest decider in Warwick touch

TOUCH: Warriors will be aiming for their first A-grade premiership in Warwick touch when they play defending premiers Designated Drinkers on Wednesday night at the touch fields at St Mark's Oval.

After a week off so players could watch the State of Origin rugby league last week, the finals series continued on Wednesday night.

Minor premiers Warriors qualified for their first grand final in A grade with a one-try win against Buns 'N' Guns in the preliminary final on Wednesday night.

Ty Gardner made a break five seconds from full time for Buns 'N' Guns which almost resulted in a try to even the score and put the match into a drop off.

Designated Drinkers have won grand finals down the years but lost last season to Live Action.

The same two teams met on Wednesday night and on this occasion Designated Drinkers were victorious 7-5.

Designated Drinkers have been boosted this season by the inclusion of experienced pair Norm Cox and Kevin Lowrey. Queensland and Australian representative Tanya Wright is playing her second season with Designated Drinkers.

Five grand finals will be played next Wednesday with two games at 6.30pm and 7.30pm on the touch fields.

The E grade grand final will be held at Collegians.

Warwick Touch Association president Justin Nolan said the current season set a new record of 40 teams for mixed touch.

"The season has gone well with most teams having plenty of players,” Nolan said.

After the grand finals, players will have a month off before the call will go out for players to sign up for the second season in 2017.

The second season sign-on will be at the touch fields on July 12 with nominations of new teams and additional players welcome.
