Warwick and Clifton players win major state cricket awards

CRICKET: Delissa Kimmince and Eliza Flynn won major awards at the Queensland Cricket presentations in Brisbane last night.

Warwick player Kimmince won the Queensland Fire all-rounder of the year award and Flynn won the Queensland Country female player of the year award.

The 2016-2017 season in cricket and the 2017 season in AFL could be described as watershed moments in the career of Kimmince.

She showed her class with bat and ball for the Queensland Fire and Brisbane Heat.

Kimmince was second behind Beth Mooney for most runs and second leading wickettaker for the Fire and captained the team to the Women's National Cricket League final.

Once the Brisbane Heat season was over, she debuted for the Brisbane Lions WAFL team which topped the competition table to make the women's Aussie rules grand final.

Few sportswomen have been part of teams to make three grand finals within six months in two national league sports but Kimmince did it twice in cricket and once in WAFL.

During the Australian Country Cricket Carnival last year, Clifton bowler Flynn had the best individual figures, 6-4, and had the best strike rate, 9.5, among the top 25 bowlers in the carnival.

She was the only Queenslander to make the national merit team after finishing with 12 wickets for 114 runs at a average of 9.25 in winning the Queensland Country Female Player of the Year.
