Warwick baker nominated for state's best apprentice
WARWICK Baker Kirsten Eddiehausen has been nominated for a state-wide apprenticeship award.
Steele Bakery's Kirsten Eddiehausen will travel to Brisbane on Tuesday after she was nominated for the 2019 BITA baking industry awards.
For Miss Eddiehausen, who finished her apprenticeship officially on Wednesday, the nomination is just the icing on top of a successful apprentice run.
"It hasn't sunk in yet,” the baker said.
"It'll probably hit me when I'm there and I can go 'this is a big deal'.”
Owner Gail Steele said the nomination was the result of unparalleled dedication and persistence in a mostly male dominated industry.
"There's only been two staff members of this standard in our bakeries in 30 years,” Mrs Steele said.
"It takes a special person to put 100% effort behind it.
"I'm happy to see Kirsten is out reaching goals we didn't realise she was capable of.”
From setting four alarms to wake up and baking with a broken finger, Miss Eddiehausen agreed that the job can be hard work at times, but that she wouldn't have it any other way.
"I love the detail and the frustration and the hours,” the baker said.
"The end product is incredible.
"It's very satisfying feeling to create something that looks and tastes amazing.”
