Warwick being ripped off at the bowser..... again

IT'S starting to sound like a broken record, but the fact remains that Warwick residents are still paying too much for their petrol.

The RACQ determined a fair price for unleaded fuel in the Rose City should have been 134.1 cents per litre (cpl) today, however not one service station met that criteria.

Only one petrol station had a number below 138cpl, as road users were again left to pay extra.

United Petroleum on Helene St posted a price of 137.9cpl, with prices for unleaded fuel ranging up to 141.9cpl at BP on Wood St.

The news comes after fuel stations had until today to remove discounted prices from their boards.

The move came after legislation was passed by the state government last year, with motorists often confused by the prices they had to pay for their fuel.

"Retailers had tried to lure drivers in with a low price on the board, then often hit them with a higher one at the bowser,” Mr Turner said.

"It's misleading and incredibly frustrating and it's why we're so pleased the State Government has listened to our calls and banned the practice.”

Mr Turner said whilst the decision was a win for motorists, more can be done for road users.

"Now we need to see the Queensland Government commit to delivering transparent reporting of petrol prices with real-time data, to ensure motorists know where they should fill up and which retailers to avoid,” he said.

"It's currently difficult for motorists to make accurate comparisons between servos with some refusing to publish their data.

"By passing legislation which would require all retailers to be upfront about their prices, the State Government could further empower motorists to make informed decisions to avoid being ripped off at the bowser.”
