Warwick bowlers taking control in Davis Shield final
UPDATE 2.40pm: CRICKET: Warwick has Lockyer 9-103 in the Davis Shield final at Slade Park.
Other than an extraordinary last wicket partnership, Warwick is set to win the Davis Shield which eluded them last season when they went down to Toowoomba in the final at Heritage Oval.
UPDATE 2.20pm: For the second week running, the Warwick Davis Shield bowlers are dominating on the turf at Slade Park against Lockyer.
Most importantly, this time it is in a final.
After dismissing Lockyer for 45 last Sunday, they have Lockyer 7-75 off 20 overs at Slade Park today in quest of Warwick's 197 off 50 overs.
UPDATE: Warwick has finished with 6-197 at the end of its 50 overs in the Davis Shield final at Slade Park.
Ben Heppell top scored with 41 and was well supported by Andrew Ryan, 37, Lachlan Gross 32, Tom Bourke 22 and captain Dave Walker, 20 not out.
The players were at lunch at 12.15pm and the odds are it will be an interesting Lockyer run chase of a total that would be below the hopes of Walker and his team.
EARLIER: A week is a long time in cricket - just ask the Warwick Davis Shield side.
Last week, Warwick scored 8-257 and then dismissed Lockyer for 45 for an easy win.
Fast forward a week to the final at Slade Park between the same two sides, Warwick is batting first and 2-92 after 30 overs.
There is still a chance Warwick will score 250 but the team will need a quick rise in the run rate.
Warwick opener Andrew Ryan followed his 99 in club cricket on Saturday with 37 today before being caught on the boundary.
With the Mitchell Shield game postponed, Lachlan Gross was eligible to play Davis Shield and was 31 not out at the end of the 30th over. He hit a six over a fieldsman at deep square leg to take his score into the 30s.
Lockyer are bowling and fielding well this week and fans could be in for a close match this afternoon at Slade Park.
The Mitchell Shield final scheduled between Warwick and Locker today at Mulgowie has been postponed to next weekend.
