Warwick boys in global focus

ELEVEN Warwick junior rugby union players had the experience of a lifetime when they were on the field during the Wallabies’ warm-up before the Test match against the Springboks at Suncorp Stadium last month.

The Warwick under-10 side was chosen under the Australian Rugby Union Wallabies Reward Program to play a curtain-raiser to the Test match.

The team played against the under-10 team from The University of Sunshine Coast – The Maroochydore Vikings.

The game could also be viewed by the Suncorp Stadium crowd via the big screen.

Warwick was pipped at the post, going down 2-1, after the Vikings side scored its second try right on the full-time whistle. The under-10 Warwick team consisted of James McDonald, Patrick McCosker, Zacarey Cooper, Reilly Turl, Lachlan Brady, William Ole, Robert Wilkins, Thomas Staunton, Mitchell Bourke, Ryan Bowerman and Lourens Wiid.

Coach was Willem Wiid and assistant coach/manager Stephen McDonald. The team was accompanied by 110 supporters who travelled in two buses.
