Warwick business changes hands after four decades
WITHIN weeks Graham and Lyn White will be putting their feet up.
Reward for almost 44 years at the helm of South West Parcel Express, a business they started with family in the mid-1970s.
The business has been purchased by David Ferguson, the Warwick StarTrack agent and will now operate out his depot at 71 Kenilworth St.
Mr White said it was well and truly time to retire.
"The business has been on the market for a while, but we knew we wanted to get out early this year so we decided it would be better to sell something than nothing and have to close the doors for good.
"David bought the business and a few trucks and we're very happy he did and with the way it all happened. We've got a bit of cleaning up to do, a few trucks to clean and detail for sale and to get this property on the market as well, but we hope to be all done and dusted by early March."
Mr White said the company started out of a need in the region.
"There was a company at the time that folded quite suddenly and left a gap in the market," he said.
"My brother-in-law and I started with one truck."
At the time of sale, the company had 15 employees and 12 trucks.
Mr White said after he and Lyn were sick of travelling, he'd like to find a rock and roll band that didn't play too many late gigs. New owner Mr Ferguson said he was looking forward to keeping South West Parcel Express alive, working with all the existing customers and meeting new ones.
