Businesses dress up for rodeo
WANTING the atmosphere of the famous Warwick Rodeo to filter through the entire town, organisers are urging businesses to spend a few minutes installing a rose, rodeo or floral themed display in their shop fronts.
Entries for this year's Warwick Horticultural Society's floral competition close today at 5pm - and one business ready to show off their creative side is Westpac Bank.
Bank manager Bevan Henningsen said this year's theme was a larger than life Akubra.
"I think Dom (Benz) came up with the idea and Katrina put it together with her husband Andrew," he said.
"It's a metal frame covered in fabric and then spray-painted."
Staff member Katrina Buckley said the bulk of it took just one-and-a-half hours to put together.
The business has put together window displays at rodeo time for a number of years and Mr Henningsen said they had ribbons from the early 1990s.
"We usually try and change up the theme year to year," he said.
"We'll put the hat in the branch display along with bales of hay, and we'll also use it on our float in the parade."
Customers to the bank in the past week had begun asking about the display, Mr Henningsen said, since the bales of hay were delivered and could be smelt from the service desk.
Entries are judged 9am tomorrow. More at 46611414.
