Warwick businessman takes on 100km challenge
ANDREW Williams would be the first to admit he's not in peak physical condition, but that hasn't stopped him putting his body on the line in the name of a good cause.
On June 17, Warwick Elders Real Estate manager Mr Williams and a group of friends will jump on the bikes to tackle Brissie to the Bay in support of multiple sclerosis fund-raising and awareness.
The self-confessed rugby union tragic has undergone two knee reconstructions since giving his game away at 45, but has put his name down to take on the 100km ride.
"We've been training for a about a month," Mr Williams said.
"It was all fine until the mornings started to get a little cooler."
With 12 days to go, Mr Williams, wife Rachel and the team, have managed a 55km ride.
"I think we'll be fine, it's just a long time to spend in the saddle," he said.
"They're not the most comfortable seats, but it's estimated we'll be done in about four hours. A little bit of discomfort for a cause like this shouldn't be an issue."
Five members of the group are taking on the 100km challenge while three others will do 25km. The group, who have called themselves, No MSing Around, has been training on Saturday mornings as well as tagging along with a group of social Warwick cyclists on Thursday afternoons.
"That's been really helpful," Mr Williams said.
"They're all quite experienced and great people so I've learned a lot just by being there. There's quite a bit to riding a bike efficiently."
