Warwick captain analyses team's loss to Dalby
RUGBY LEAGUE: The flood didn't make it to the playing field at Father Ranger Oval but Dalby certainly did in a 38-6 victory against the Warwick Cowboys on Saturday night.
Cowboys president David O'Leary put the scoreline down to fewer errors by the Dalby team.
He was high in praise of Warwick half-back and captain Paul Cantwell for his play and leadership.
"Paul has been our best in the first three rounds this season. He has captained the team in a couple of games and is playing some of the best footy of his career,” O'Leary said.
"I would like to think Paul will come into consideration for the Toowoomba representative half position.”
Dalby led 12-6 at half-time and scored four tries in the second half.
"Corey Blades scored three Dalby tries. He and Steve Franciscus were great on the left side for a Dalby club which has recruited well.”
The biggest disappointment on Saturday for Warwick was a 38-36 loss in U18s.
Warwick led 36-14 early in the second half before starting to leak points and conceding a try on full-time to go down. Last season, the U18s from Warwick made the TRL grand final.
After winning the club championship last season, Warwick is currently eighth this season.
The only Cowboys win at the weekend was in second division but only points in A, reserve and U18 grades count towards the club championship.
Valleys lead with 15 points from Dalby and Wattles on 12 with Warwick eighth with six points.
Warwick is away to Oakey on Saturday in round 4 to TRL fixtures.
In the aftermath of the game, the Daily News put some questions to captain Paul Cantwell.
Where did you lose the game: We dropped a bit of ball just after half-time and didn't complete our sets and they ran away with it.
Can you match it with Dalby later in the season: If we hold the ball, we can match it with Dalby.
How good is Dalby: They are strong all over the park and are the team to beat.
Who played well: Hooker Mitch McMahon almost made 50 tackles, he is coming into his own in A grade.
Mitch can kick in general play so who is doing your kicking. Brad Morrish, Mitch and I are doing most of our general kicking.
How was the field after the rain: Really nice
Scores: A grade: Dalby d Warwick 38-6, reserve grade: Dalby d Warwick 34-16, U18 Dalby d Warwick 38-36, second div Warwick d Dalby 32-8.
