Warwick Cowboys chase trifecta in TRL knockout semi-finals

RUGBY LEAGUE: Coach Craig Mullaly wants his players to concentrate on limiting mistakes when they take on Gatton tomorrow in their major semi-final match in Toowoomba.

Mullaly's reserve-grade side will be one of three Warwick Cowboys teams to head to Toowoomba tomorrow to compete in three knockout semi-final games at Clive Berghofer Stadium.

The Cowboys ladies' league tag, C-grade and reserve-grade teams will all take to the field with the hope of qualifying for the grand final.

"We need to complete our sets and keep mistakes down to deprive them of the ball," Mullaly said.

"They have a very physical forward pack and their defence has been impressive."

Gatton finished the regular season with the best defensive record in the competition, letting in just 248 points all year.

Gaining a week off for finishing top of the competition ladder, the Cowboys will be well rested for the semi-final.

Mullaly said the side would be looking for direction from halfback Jaime Abbas and captain Morgan Taylor, from the hooker position. "I've been really happy with how the boys have gone this season, they've done a great job and listened really well," Mullaly said.

"Morgan has a bit more experience than the other boys and we will be looking to him to lead the team around the park."

Dalby and Toowoomba will face off in the second reserve-grade semi-final.

The Cowboys ladies' league tag team will start the day of finals at 9am against Pittsworth, with the winner to qualify for the September 26 grand final showdown against Goondiwindi.

Coach David O'Leary has been impressed with how well the team has done in its first year in the league tag competition and said the support has been overwhelming.

"Everyone at the club has gotten behind the ladies and they've done so well to be here at finals time," O'Leary said.

"To have performed so well in the first year of being part of the competition is just great.

"We're hoping to build on this success next year and attract more players to sign up."

They will face a tough Goondiwindi team if they manage to win this weekend, Warwick went down 44-6 the last time they met.

In A grade, Wattles will face Gatton at 2.30pm, with Highfields to take on Gatton from 6.30pm at Clive Berghofer Stadium, Toowoomba.
