Warwick chasing 114 in Slade Shield final

WARWICK is chasing 114 to win its first Slade Shield final in 25 years.

Goondiwindi won the toss and elected to bat at Riddles Oval, Goondiwindi, today and were cruising at 0-60 after 15 overs.

Paul Cantwell and Brett McEvoy took the first two wicket for Warwick as Goondiwindi slumped to 2-62 at drinks after 17 overs.

Goondiwindi never recovered in the face of some top bowling by Paul Cantwell who took 4-26 and Jason Steketee 2-16.

McEvoy backed up his early wicket with a direct hit to run out one Goondiwindi player.

Earlier this season, Warwick won the Mitchell Shield. The Slade Shield is played between the leading teams in Eastern Downs and Western Downs competitions.
