DRAG RACING: It is one from one on Warwick Dragway in the quick ET class for Gold Coast driver Paul Taprell.

Taprell was top qualifier on Saturday in JP Racing Dragfest and won his class today.

"This was my second time in Warwick but first in the quick ET class,” he said.

His close mate Andrew Lange travelled from Gold Coast where he is a health care worker and was second in blown outlaws behind winner Bart Bedrossian from Coombabah.

"The car ran well, I love the Warwick track, they treat everyone the same no matter what class you are in,” Lange said.

Lange and his wife Kristy head to Warwick for drag racing three or four times each year.

At every race meeting, there are hard luck stories.

Nambucca Heads driver Phil Penny was fastest qualifier in the extreme sedan class and had six wins from six passes until the relay for the trans brake came loose at the start of race 7.

"I couldn't reverse so had to get pulled off the track,” Penny said

"I will be back in October and know my points from this weekend will carry through to round 2.”

Dragfest round 1 attracted 120 nominations and Warwick District Drag Racing Association vice president John Loy said the March round 1 of Dragfest would be held annually.

"The weekend went really well,” he said.

Round 2 of Dragfest is on October 14-15.
