Warwick colts make it into grand final in football
FOOTBALL: The Warwick Wolves colts qualified for the grand final with a hard-fought 3-0 win against Willow City in the preliminary final of Toowoomba football on Friday night.
Warwick will now play West Wanderers in the grand final on Friday in Toowoomba at West Wanderers' fields.
Gift Lisie had a great game up front for Warwick scoring two goals and Sam Maoire scored the other goal to seal the win.
Will Gordon, Luke Dean, Nick Mansfield and Zac Wall were also good for Warwick at the back keeping Willow City to nil. Alek Ebeneter had some great saves in goal for Warwick.
Coach Tony Cooper said it had been a great season for Warwick not having lost a fixture game when able to field its full team.
"We lost to West Wanderers in the semi-final when we only had 12 players due to illness,” he said.
"The boys have done extremely well this year being by far the youngest team in the competition with most other teams made up of mostly 18-year-old boys.
"Most of the Warwick players are aged 15 and 16 with one 17 years old and two aged 18.
"It has been a pleasure to coach the team this year.”
Cooper is in his first year of colts coaching and has a team with four players backing up after a colts premiership win in Stanthorpe.
The grand final start time has not been confirmed but 7pm is likely.
