Warwick connection ready to head to Millmerran

RODEO: Warwick riders are set to challenge for the prizemoney when the Australian Professional Rodeo Association heads to Millmerran for a show rodeo on February 27.

While Michael Maher is first in APRA standings and Mark Collins third, Peel Tribe and Lane Grayson showed during the Christmas Run in the southern states that they would be two to watch this year.

Tribe was a multiple placegetter in the southern states while Grayson won the open and second-division at Carrieton (SA).

Tribe is 15th in standings and Grayson 20th but both need more prize money in the next two months to make it in the top-15 qualifiers for this year's Australian championships.

The rider to beat for the Warwick four will be Millmerran star John McNamee, who is currently second in APRA standings.

Peter Moffatt has proved to be one of the best saddle bronc riders in the nation in the past five years and may make the trip from Western Queensland to compete.

He is originally from Millmerran and has a habit of rising to the occasion at his hometown rodeo and has also placed in Warwick.

All eight APRA championship events will be held at Millmerran.

The Miller family from Warwick are all likely starters at Millmerran; Shellie in barrel racing and husband Jeff and their son Kobe in team roping.

The timed events at Millmerran will be in the afternoon and then the rough stock events in a smaller purpose-built rodeo arena at night.

APRA all around standings leader Errol Frain lives at Yeppoon and is expected to be one of many from Central Queensland to compete. After Millmerran, the next APRA rodeo in Queensland will be at Comet on March 19.
