Warwick cowboy wins monthly sports star award

BROCK Eastwell has won a Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Month award after winning the rope and tie average at the Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals.

He was second behind his brother Mitch in the first round, recorded a time in round 2, won round 3 and was fourth in the final round.

Brock had the quickest time over four head of 44.6 seconds to win the average in a field including the most successful roper in APRA history Shane Kenny.

During the Australian Professional Rodeo Association season, he was placed in both rounds and the average at the Mt Isa Rodeo.

Brock said winning the average at Warwick was the highlight of his career so far.

"The placings were good for the back pocket as the prize money at finals is better than at most regular rodeos,” he said.

He also competes in the National Rodeo Association and won round 1 of the finals at Maryborough and was fifth in round 2 in Toowoomba.

Brock is second in the NRA standings behind Clay Gall with one round to go this weekend at Caboolture.
