Warwick Cowboys to appeal 10 weeks suspension in TRL

RUGBY LEAGUE: The Warwick Cowboys will appeal a judiciary decision that will scrub out forward Mick Bloomfield for 10 weeks.

Cowboys president David O'Leary slammed the decision.

"It is ridiculous, there is no consistency,” he said.

"Mick has played rugby league for 12 years and never before been charged but that doesn't seem to mean anything at the end of the day.”

The Cowboys pleaded guilty to the charges but asked for downgrading at the judiciary on Wednesday night in Toowoomba.

If they accepted a guilty plea without contesting the charges, Bloomfield would have missed seven weeks, which would have included the A-grade grand final. The club has a minumum of five games remaining this season and a possibility of seven depending on finals results.

A Toowoomba Rugby League spokeswoman said Bloomfield had been charged with grade 2 and grade 4 dangerous throws.

"The Cowboys applied for the gradings to be downgraded and were unsuccessful, he is now out for 10 weeks,” she said.

O'Leary said most of the charges for dangerous throws in the NRL didn't go above grade 2.

"The club is looking at what appeal options we have,” he said.

"We asked for the downgrading of the two charges based on his clean record. Both tackled players didn't appear to be injured and finished the game.”

The charges resulted from the top-of-the-table clash at Pittsworth on Saturday night, which the Cowboys won 17-10.
