Warwick crowns its 2010 Showgirl
IN the first time she has ever entered such an event, Kelsey Burt has been crowned the 2010 Warwick Showgirl.
She admitted being pretty shocked when her name was announced as the winner at the annual Show Ball at the Douglas Feez Pavilion on Saturday night.
“A friend nominated me and got me to do it with her and I did it more to gain experience and more confidence,” Miss Burt said.
“It was a bit of a shock, I didn’t quite think I would win.
“It was a little bit daunting but the judges were really lovely and made you feel really relaxed.”
Miss Burt said she wore a long black and green dress and the night was great.
Warwick Show and Rodeo Society ladies auxiliary member Nancy Gross said while the crowd was a little bit lower than they would have liked, it was an excellent night.
“There was good music, lovely meals and the girls were marvellous ... everything was just perfect,” Mrs Gross said.
She said all up the three senior and four junior entrants raised $6000.
The judges were Prue and David Bondfield and former Warwick Showgirl Amy Olsen.
Ella Tregurtha was named Miss Junior Showgirl.
Last year’s Warwick Showgirl Emma Cameron, who also went on to win Miss Darling Downs Showgirl, was present at the night and gave a speech.
“Emma made a lovely speech ... you can notice the difference when the girls win locally and then go on to the Darling Downs quest and come back. It’s amazing how much they mature in just 12 months,” Mrs Gross said.
Mrs Gross admitted they would like the entries to be a little higher, but was pleased with the Junior Showgirl Quest given last year was the first time it had been held.
