Warwick driver finishes first V8 series with mixed results
MOTORSPORT: Matt Campbell has finished his first V8 Supercars enduro series with a 21st place along with Todd Kelly as part of the Nissan Motorsport team.
Kelly has competed in all 23 races so far in the V8 series and was 14th overall in the standings after this weekend at the Gold Coast.
Campbell joined with Kelly in a Nissan Motorsport team for the three enduro race weekends and they finished seventh at Sandown, did not finish at Bathurst and then recorded eighth and 21st at the Gold Coast at the weekend.
Once again, the commentary team talked up the potential of the 21-year-old from Warwick with some ranking him one of the best young drivers in Australia.
Their Saturday's eighth placing was outstanding after starting 23rd on the grid. Today Kelly and Campbell started 22nd on the grid and moved up one place.
Kelly's has had six placings eighth or better in the first 23 races this year, including two of his best out of the four races when Campbell was his co-driver. It is back to the one-driver format in the V8s for the rest of the year with Kelly still to race in Auckland and Sydney.
In the last race of the year in the Porsche Carrera Cup at the Gold Coast this afternoon, Campbell came third so ended up with two wins and one second at the Gold Coast and a runaway series victory.
