Warwick driver to start from the front
UPDATED: Warwick's Matt Campbell will start today's second Gold Coast 600 race from the front after his co-driver Shane Van Gisbergen took pole position this afternoon.
Van Gisbergen, driving his Red Bull Holden Racing Team Commodore, won the top ten shootout at the Surfers Paradise street circuit after qualifying for his 32nd straight shootout in the category.
Starting last after taking provisional pole the defending Supercars champion set a time of 1:10.8384 to beat teammate Jamie Whincup to top spot.
Campbell will now start in the car in the scheduled 300km race with all co-drivers expected to start to aid strategy for the teams.
And he's not daunted by the task ahead of him.
'It will be much better conditions today, which is a positive for us," he said.
'I'm looking forward to this afternoon.'
Campbell yesterday fought wild and wet conditions to finish fourth in the first 300km race.
Van Gisbergen went on a late charge but couldn't overtake Brad Jones Racing's Tim Slade to give Campbell his first Supercars podium in the category.
The race this afternoon starts at 2.25pm over 102 laps.
There will be more online and in the Warwick Daily News print edition.
