Warwick driver wants to go one place better than last year

MOTORSPORT: After being in the second-placed team last year in the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12-Hour, Warwick driver Matt Campbell is hoping for a win on Sunday.

There is only one change to the Competition Motorsports team from last year with the inclusion of Alec Davison, along with Campbell, David Calvert-Jones and Patrick Long.

"We are hoping to do just as well if not better than last year,” Campbell said.

The 12-hour race will almost seem like a drive in the park for Campbell after he was part of a team which won its class in a 24-hour race at Dubai.

Campbell was in the driver's seat at the start and finish in Dubai. His teammates were from Austria, France and Germany. They competed in the same type of Porsche which Campbell drove to third overall in the Mobil 1 Supercup last year.

This year, Campbell will move up to a spot as a Porsche Young Professionals driver.

"I will be more racing GT cars and focusing on endurance racing around the world,” he said.

Campbell said he enjoyed endurance racing.

"I had no problems with the duration of the 24-hour race, I slept for 25 minutes in a 36-hour period,” he said.

Practice and qualifying Friday and Saturday with racing Sunday at Bathurst.
