Warwick finishes with a win in state women’s hockey

HOCKEY: Warwick finished the Queensland Women’s Masters Hockey Championships with a victory against Townsville 2 today in Bundaberg.

The team drew 0-all against both Gympie 2 and Bundaberg on Friday and then drew 1-all with Brisbane after a Nicole Burley goal.

Warwick lost 2-0 to Redlands late on Saturday and then yesterday won 3-0 today against Townsville 2.

Deb Rhodes, Leisa Nowlan and Celene Keleher scored the goals.

Coach Shannon Armbruster said the team played a different system on the field using three strike forwards to help withstand the heat.

“The ladies played the new system well and Kerri Fitch was outstanding in goal,” she said.

WARWICK TEAM: Deb Rhodes, Angela Groves, Celene Keleher, Kerri Fitch, Janelle Lee, Leisa Nowlan, Donna Carey, Jody Jarrett, Kerrie Haines, Rosie Corney, Nicole Burley, Elaine Badini, Yasmin Van Kesteren, physio Jo-Anne Yates, coach Shannon Armbruster, manager Mary King.
