Warwick gears for top race day

RACE-GOERS are busy getting their final outfits sorted ahead of this weekend's Warwick Credit Union Warwick Cup Day.

The biggest event on the Warwick racing calendar, according to Warwick Turf Club president Phil Grant, the 154th running of the event will feature six races tomorrow, as well as a Calcutta tonight.

"The track's looking good, the forecast for Saturday is good and we've basically filled the marquee," Mr Grant said.

"We're expecting a large crowd and we've recently finished refurbishing the Members' Bar so there's a bit more room in there.

"It's our race day of the year, our biggest day of the year so we're looking forward to it."

This year's event will see $9000 worth of prizes for the Fashions on the Field and Warwick residents should have local horses to cheer on, with local trainers expected to nominate.

"Len Bryant will have some nominations, Norm Hilton will enter and Steve and Les Clarke are entering as well," Mr Grant said. "I'm sure plenty of ladies will be dressing up for Fashions in the Field and trying to take home some of that prize money as well."
