Warwick girl follows in family footsteps

WARWICK Showgirl entrant Amy Bradfield is no stranger to the Warwick Show.

Amy, 20, grew up in Warwick with her close-knit family, who have a long association with the Warwick Show.

"It has always been a big part of my life," she Bradfield said.

"It means a lot to me.

"My motivation is to be a spokesperson for the Warwick Show to give something back to them."

Amy is following in the footsteps on her younger sister, Emily, and mum Christine, both of whom enjoyed showgirl success.

"My mum was Miss Warwick Showgirl in 1986, and my sister was the Miss Warwick Junior Showgirl last year," she said.

Amy has been showjumping for about eight years, coming from a line of champion horse riders.

"My mum and auntie have represented Australia, and my mum's uncle was selected for the Olympics," she said.

These days, Amy travels the show circuit competing in show jumping.

When she is not competing, she runs a business with her mum, offering horse training, riding lessons and agistment.

"I have been competing for many years in the ring events, and found my niche in showjumping," she said.

With a passion for showjumping, it was only natural that Amy's fundraiser would incorporate her favourite event.

The showjumping fundraiser will be held today at the Warwick Showgrounds, with nominations taken on the day from 8am at the McConville Bar.

"It's familiar territory for me, and it is good to get the horses out before the show season starts," she said.

"I've had good support from our students, and have had a fair bit of interest."

"We are running a raffle as well, with a variety of prizes from horse items to general prizes.

"There is a barbecue lamb package donated by the McBride family, a farrier's voucher and bags of feed from Riverina."

Amy said people not competing were also encouraged to come and join them for a sausage sizzle.

"We will have a sausage sizzle from 10am, with the raffle drawn at 2pm," she said.

Amy is proud to be associated with the Warwick Show.

"It is one of the best for jumping in the region. We are lucky we have passionate people behind it," she said.
