Warwick girls win against Townsville in hockey
HOCKEY: Warwick finished fourth in division 3 at the Queensland under-15 girls hockey championships at Gympie.
The team was coached by Dion Phillips with Dave Jordan assistant coach and Jannita Oldham manager.
Warwick won four games and lost three.
Phillips said the best win was 1-0 against Townsville 2 on turf.
"Kate Jordan scored the winning goal with the runaway effort with 10 minutes to go,” Phillips said.
"Grace Parsons had a great carnival for Warwick playing centre half,” he said.
"Captain Hayley Schnitzerling was strong at fullback. Kate Jordan was consistent with three goals during the carnival.”
The Parsons sisters, Grace and Felicity, and Tiaha Tyler were the three first-year players in the team.
Boys draw
WARWICK played in division 2 in the boys under-15 championships at Mackay last week.
Coach Phil Rolfe rated the 2-all draw against Towsville 2 as the best performance.
"We went well against Redlands in a 1-0 loss,” he said.
"The boys showed a lot of improvement with a team which only had two players in the under-15 age group, most are still in their under-13 year.”
Forward Jack Hill, goalie Dylan Ready, fullback Zac Balfour and half Jacob Rolfe were four of the best for Warwick. Brady Ready was assistant coach and Alan Balfour the manager.
