Warwick Gymnastic Club is expanding in 52nd year
THE Warwick Gymnastic Club is 51 years old and boasts a membership of 200.
The club has used different venues down the years but has been at its current clubhouse in Easey St since 1986.
Club president Coby Walker said numbers were growing and the approved building extension was badly needed as there was a waiting list of children wanting to join.
"The club has Southern Downs Regional Council approval to build an international standard arena in a clubhouse extension,” he said.
"We have a grant under Queensland Sport and Recreation Places and Spaces funding and are formalising a loan to play a small part of the cost. The club has saved some money down the years for the project.
"The club is hoping work will be completed by June and it can accept new members for term 3. We are offering the venue as a training base for teams competing in next year's Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast.”
The club has training six days a week, after school Monday to Friday and 9am-noon each Saturday.
Greg Ryan is head coach and there are 12 qualified coaches.
The club has two major invitation tournaments a year and club members travel to competitions as far as Dalby and the Gold Coast.
